Keeping Your Safety and Comfort First

When it comes to anesthesia, our first priority is our patient’s safety and comfort. If you have questions or concerns regarding the type of anesthesia that will be administered during your oral surgery procedure, please do not hesitate to discuss them at any time with Dr. Plant.

Recovery from General Anesthesia

Dr. Plant closely monitors his patients while they are under general anesthesia. He is sure to only administer as much medication as is necessary to allow the patient to stay asleep and comfortable for the duration of the procedure. After waking from general anesthesia, patients are generally a bit drowsy. They are closely monitored and allowed to rest until they feel alert and ready to go home.

Before patients are discharged to return home, they will be given detailed written post operative instructions and directions for the use of over the counter and prescription pain medicines. The same instructions will also be shared with the person who will be driving them home. Our staff calls every patient the next business day after their surgery to check in and to make sure their recovery is going smoothly. Dr Plant is always available and happy to answer any questions or concerns his patients may have.

Anesthesia Options:

Local anesthetic is commonly used for minor surgical procedures, and when used alone, the patient remains totally conscious throughout the procedure. Local anesthesia (Lidocaine) is administered to the area where the surgery will be performed. Lidocaine numbs the area allowing the patient to be comfortable during the procedure.

Local anesthetic is also used in conjunction with general anesthesia in more extensive surgical procedures.
